PhD position in experimental psychopathology/health psychology at the University of Salzburg, Austria

How do emotions modulate when and what we eat? What are the neurocognitive dimensions underlying eating and weight disorders? How could basic laboratory tasks inform the weight reduction interventions of the future?

These are the questions we ask in our group. We approach these challenges with experimental, neurocognitive and ambulatory methods and in populations ranging from healthy to eating and weight disordered groups. We are funded by a starting grant of the European Research Council (NewEat: 639445). We are supported by an excellent research infrastructure at Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and the Department of Psychology, featuring several EEG laboratories, a research-only fMRI scanner, an MEG center, several eye-trackers and brain stimulation devices. We are a well-connected, dynamic work group, hoping to provide a vibrant and motivating scientific environment as well as good work-life balance. Salzburg is located at the rim of the Alps and offers a rich cultural life as well as plenty of outdoors recreational opportunities.

We now offer a 3-year PhD position, starting early 2018 (negociable). Candidates should have a background in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience or related disciplines and should be interested in eating behavior and eating disorders as well as in one or several of the following methods: EEG, functional imaging, MEG, brain stimulation, data modelling (e.g. hierarchical linear modelling). Programming knowledge in Matlab, R or other languages is advantageous. A good command of English is necessary, knowledge of German is advantageous but optional. Annual salary is € 28’600 per year (part time, 30 h). Paid teaching is possible on an optional basis. We aim for an equal representation of female students so women are especially encouraged to apply.
